On Environmental Awareness Day, CNH Industrial reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable industry

CNH Industrial

CNH Industrial, a leading company in the development and marketing of agricultural machinery, construction equipment and financial services for these segments, is focused on reducing its environmental footprint, improving its products, technologies and resources.

At its plant in Córdoba, Argentina, the firm has a waste management policy with which, through an Ecological Island, the waste generated in manufacturing is recycled. The objective of the project is to give a “second life” to the waste that is generated to turn it into products that are manufactured in the plant’s carpentry shop and that are then donated to non-governmental entities or given as gifts to employees.

Thus, in 2021 the company recovered some 19 tons of wood that were reused for various logistics tasks.

In this framework, the company is an example of how to visualize the potential of waste to generate economic, environmental and social value at the same time. Among the actions in conjunction with other companies, we can mention the recycled cardboard toys made together with the Ondulé brand, which were delivered to the children of its collaborators and donated to the city’s Children’s Hospital.

On the other hand, an alliance with the local company Quimiguay, a reference in the treatment and comprehensive management of hazardous waste, to recover the solvents used during the machinery manufacturing process. The final product is then reused as an input for cleaning the plant. From this agreement 2500 liters of solvent were recovered.

“CNH Industrial has a vision that aims to minimize the generation of waste, prevent pollution, increase the efficiency of the use of natural resources and, at the same time, guarantee the efficiency of the processes to ensure the quality of our products. These principles are reflected in our Quality, Safety, Occupational Health and Environment policy. We aim to apply the Circular Economy in each of our processes with the advice of IARSE (Argentine Institute of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability). At the same time, we work with the Biocórdoba Municipal Entity, participating in its congresses and talks. In addition, we support the Municipal School of Circular Economy (EMEC) through the delivery of materials”, said Bruno Sicilia, Head of EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) at CNH Industrial.

Actions and support to the community

In order to mitigate the impact triggered by the frequent fires that plague the province of Córdoba, the company started a support plan with three lines of action.

This program consisted, in the first instance, in a campaign to collect veterinary medical supplies among the company’s employees, in order to donate them to NGOs that acted in the care of wild animals and agricultural and livestock producers in the affected areas. In a second stage, a reforestation program was carried out led by the Environment area of CNH Industrial and specialized advice. In a third stage, and under the leadership of the Sustainability Committee with the advice of experts, the company carried out the donation of specific equipment for forest fires with the aim of supplying nine fire stations in areas surrounding the Punilla Valley. This delivery consisted of high-tech tools, including motorized atomizer backpacks, water flow regulation lances, pieces to increase the water flow, hoses and high-pressure extinguishing kits.

The reforestation stage included the participation of the plant’s collaborators, who met on the Pan de Azúcar hill, in the province of Córdoba, and planted 655 specimens of native trees. This number translates to approximately 249 tons of carbon dioxide absorbed.
